So why did strange direct Tony alone to do the ultimate sacrifice implying it is the only way they can win? We know it makes perfect sense in doylist perspective to kill Tony, but any other character could have snapped away thanos granted they are willing to die for it and there are characters like drax who would be happy to do so and its not like some one had to snap away the army and kill themself in the process to defeat thanos and its fairly possible that the avengers could have managed to defeat him manually, all be it with a lot more casualities. I'm sure we all thought that doctor strange could have done more in the endgame battle to defeat thanos and since thanos didn't have the infinity gauntlet(at least in the beginning of the battle)strange or any other wizard could have easily neutralized thanos by trapping him and his army in the mirror dimension(from which thanos broke out in their battle on titan by using the power stone).
